One of the great opportunities of being in the RAF Air Cadets is the access to additional qualifications and experiences which look amazing on my CV. The Pearson Level 3 EPQ is one of the those and I recently signed up to do this alongside my main college topics and training as well, but this qualification is through cadets (even though many individuals do it at six form or college as an option)..
Arranging to do this through cadets means I have access to subject specialises that I would struggle to find in most colleges. We do have to choose a subject under the Aerospace, Space or Cyber headings though. With my personal interest in and hopeful future career plans in aerospace maintenance and engineering I chose to use the topic of Air Accident Investigation and Its Impact on Air Safety. Now this is of course quite a large topic we in order to make it manageable I am excluding military plans, human error, extreme weather, drones and terrorism as causes.
As part of my project I will be sharing my research and project on my website for future inclusion in my portfolio. I have until April 2024 to complete this and hope you will enjoy the journey as much I will. I will be visiting a number of aerospace museums, exploring some really interesting books and discovering many of the public AAIB reports from air accidents over the last few decades.
Some highlights although that probably isn’t the best term that I will be exploring include Concorde and also even some local accidents in the South West of England. My goal is to see the impact these air accident investigations have on air safety through improvements in regular maintenance, air worthiness tests, pre flight checks and other preventive measures.
The EPQ is equal to half an A Level and also provides you with UCAS points. By choosing a topic close to my future career path I am hoping that not only my college course next year will look on it favourably but also any potential employer too!
Dont forget to discover some more of my blog especially my aerospace articles and check back for my EQP project in the future too!
